NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The recent path of Hurricane Ike through East Texas forced Stephen F. Austin to cancel several weekend athletic events including Saturday's football game against Kentucky Wesleyan, four volleyball matches and the Ladyjack soccer team's game against Arkansas.
Although all Monday classes have been canceled, athletic department officials will meet Monday morning to discuss the university's schedule for returning to athletic competition. SFA has several teams with events scheduled for the upcoming week. The Lumberjack football is slated to makes its first trip to Macomb, Ill., Saturday for a 6:05 p.m. game against Western Illinois. The Ladyjack volleyball team has a home match slated for Tuesday against North Texas, before hitting the road for three matches that are scheduled to be played at the University of Houston. The SFA soccer team is scheduled to be at Creighton on Friday and Nebraska Sunday, while the men's and women's cross country teams are preparing to compete at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
The SFA volleyball team (4-3) may move Tuesday's match, which was originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in the William R. Johnson Coliseum, to Shelton Gymnasium. The facility, which was the original home of the Ladyjack volleyball team, also served as a backup venue in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita during the 2005 season.
Further information on all SFA athletic competitions will be posted on the SFA athletic web site as it comes available.
