NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin soccer team begins its 2008 season Friday with a road game against TCU. The contest with the Horned Frogs is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from Fort Worth, Texas.
SFA's only action thus far is a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Oklahoma in an exhibition last week. TCU is coming off a 3-1 exhibition loss to nationally ranked Oklahoma State.
Live Stats from Friday's game will be available on www.sfajacks.com, and TCU will provide live streaming video on its site, www.gofrogs.com.
The contest will mark the first for SFA under new head coach George Van Linder. To this point in program history, no Ladyjack head coach has won his or her initial season opener. SFA is 6-6-1 all-time in season openers with a 3-4-0 all-time mark when opening the season on the road.
The Ladyjacks are coming off a Southland Conference championship 13-5-2 season in 2007. SFA returns nine starters, including six preseason All-SLC selections from that campaign. The Horned Frogs went 8-11-0 last season with a 3-4-0 record in Mountain West Conference action.
TCU holds a 4-0-0 all-time advantage in the series. The teams met every season from 1995 to 1998 but haven't squared off since the Horned Frogs took a 4-0 win in Nacogdoches in '98. The last meeting in Fort Worth ended with a 9-1 TCU victory in '97.
