NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Last season the Ladyjacks were solid in the middle with the blocking tandem of Traci Rohde and redshirt junior Ashley Bailey, but with Rohde now gone the bulk of the load at the net will fall on the shoulders of the Bailey. The Mesquite, Texas, native came on midway through the 2007 season and stepped into a starting role where she immediately excelled, earning SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice. She became a go-to offensive player as well and has all the tools to earn all-conference honors after leading SFA with a 1.22 blocks per game average last year.
Kelsie Heppler and Arielle Daron will provide depth and experience in the middle as well, after both saw limited action in 2007. Heppler brings a consistent presence to the court, while Daron is making the transition from outside hitter to the net for her sophomore campaign after primarily playing in the middle in her prep career.
Freshman Mary Caitlin "MC" Bottles comes to the Ladyjacks from Rowlett, Texas, after a standout high school and club career during which she saw time at numerous positions. Humphreys loves the work ethic of this six-foot freshman and expects that work ethic to pay almost immediate dividends on the court. Her long and lanky frame should work well in the SFA system after also seeing time as a setter and outside hitter in high school.
