NACOGDOCHES - The thunderstorms eliminated the Lumberjacks' scheduled workout Friday afternoon, forcing the team indoors. Despite the inclement weather, the 'Jacks are still preparing to take to the field Saturday morning for their first spring scrimmage.
"We are going into these scrimmages looking for people to earn starting spots," said head coach J.C. Harper. "Every position on the depth chart is up for grabs."
The scrimmage is slated to begin at 9 a.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium, and will be approximately 130 plays. The offense will score points the old fashion way, with the only addition being two points for runs of 12 yards or more, and pass plays of 16 or more yards. The defense scoring opportunities are as follows - defensive touchdown - 7 pts., forced turnover (with no touchdown) - 5 pts., three-and-out - 1 pt., sack - 3 pts., offense drives inside the 35-yard line but is held to a field goal or less - 4 pts., blocked PAT - 1 pt., blocked field goal - 3 pts. and a tackle for a loss - 2 pts.
Due to thunderstorms in the Nacogdoches area Friday, SFA will only have two practices under its belt heading into Saturday's scrimmage. The team had originally scheduled three workouts prior to Saturday's scrimmage.
Sophomore-to-be Jeremy Moses, and Central Michigan transfer Duane Brooks will work with the first team. Redshirt quarterback Garrett Milton and Anthony Boutte will take snaps with the second team.
Saturday's scrimmage will be free and open to the public.
