NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' annual spring game will be streamed online through SFA All-Access. There will be no charge for the event. Fans will only need to register for an account by clicking the SFA All-Access button at www.sfajacks.com.
The SFA athletics department began using All-Access prior to the start of the 2007 football season. SFA All-Access provides fans the opportunity to watch selected SFA home events streamed live on the internet. Throughout the course of the 2007-08 season fans could watch all home football and men's and women's basketball games through SFA All-Access.
The Lumberjack football team returns to practice Thursday afternoon after taking a break from workouts Wednesday. SFA will hold its final practice session Friday before taking to the field Saturday for its first scrimmage of the spring. The scrimmage is slated to begin at 9 a.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. It is free and open to the public.
The Lumberjacks are scheduled to open the 2008 season Saturday, Aug. 30, at home against Langston. SFA will open the season with one of the youngest rosters nation, having only six seniors.
The 'Jacks return a wealth of young talent from last year's squad that was forced to play multiple positions due to injuries. Led by freshman Jabara Williams who started seven games at linebacker for SFA, and finished among the team leaders in tackles. Of his seven starts at linebacker, Williams also started three of those games at running back, where he rushed for more than 200 yards.
Safety Chris Elliott was another new face that split time on the field at different positions. Elliott recorded four starts in the 'Jacks' secondary last year, and also saw time at running back where he carried the ball 10 times, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Sophomore Contrevious Parks started the season at receiver, but was moved to the secondary where he recorded 24 tackles before his season was slowed by injury. Freshman quarterback Jeremy Claybon showed flashes of brilliance as a signal caller during his rookie season, but even he had the opportunity to showcase his athletic ability on the defensive side of the ball. Claybon started the '08 finale at cornerback, and recorded three tackles against Northwestern State.
