NACOGDOCHES, Texas - With only four more SLC series' remaining on the schedule, the Lumberjack baseball team leaves the State of Texas for the second time and final time this season when it hits the road for Thibodaux, La., to open up a three-game series against Nicholls State on Friday.
The games can be followed via Gametracker at www.sfajacks.com.
SFA and Nicholls have each struggled this season in SLC play, combining for only five conference wins between them. The `Jacks are currently riding an eight-game losing streak after falling on Tuesday at Dallas Baptist.
The `Jacks (14-25, 3-14) took two of three games from Nicholls State (7-34, 2-16) last season in Nacogdoches, but are actually making their first appearance in Thibodaux since 1994. SFA is 7-17 since 1988 against the Colonels.
Kevin Crabtree continues to lead the offense for the `Jacks, holding a .363 batting average to date and has even gotten the job done on the basepaths with 15 stolen bases. Kai Kirby currently leads the `Jacks in that category with 16 swipes, a new school record, and also leads the SLC in outfield assists with seven after gunning down an other runner at the plate on Tuesday.
Nicholls had lost 11 in a row before halting that skid with an 8-4 win on Wednesday over Loyola; however, even with the win the Colonels have still lost 18 of their last 20. They have only picked up a pair of wins in SLC play this year, but they each have been against two of the top teams in the conference and both in Thibodaux. The Colonels picked up a 12-10 win over Texas State in the opening weekend of conference play, then also picked up a 8-5 win over Lamar on April 5.
Both of those wins came with Bryan Meyers as the starting pitcher, the scheduled Saturday starter for this weekend.
Brandt Boudreaux is the only Colonel with an average over .300, sporting a .306 batting average with a pair of home runs and 18 RBI. Nicholls State is only hitting at a .245 clip as a team, while their team ERA sits at 7.52.
