SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Lumberjacks could solve the riddle of Kris Ruepke on Sunday as the UTSA starter tossed a complete-game shutout and got plenty of run support in a 7-0 win over SFA to complete a three-game sweep.
SFA (14-24, 3-14) only had five baserunners on the night with nobody reaching second base against Ruepke who picked up his fourth win in five decisions for UTSA (28-12, 14-4).
Lance Luetge got the start for SFA and took the loss to go to 4-6 on the year and allowed six runs - three earned - in 4 2/3 innings. The bullpen came on to toss the final 3 1/3 innings, only allowing one run.
UTSA got on top 2-0 with runs in both the first and the third, but it was a four-run fifth inning that opened the game up. The `Runners used two doubles, a triple and a sacrifice fly to bring in their four runs. Trent Lockwood finished with a pair of hits and three RBI to lead the UTSA offense.
Kevin Crabtree, Justin Roland and Zach Gardner each had hits for the Lumberjacks.
The `Jacks continue non-conference play on Tuesday at Dallas Baptist before going to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls State over the weekend.
