
Jacks Prepare for Second Scrimmage

NACOGDOCHES - The rains held off long enough for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team to get in its afternoon workout. Thursday's session was the seventh of 14 scheduled practices for the 'Jacks on the 2008 spring calendar.
The 'Jacks will be back on the turf at Homer Bryce Stadium Friday for their second scheduled scrimmage. The scrimmage is slated to begin at 6 p.m., and will pit the first-team offense, against the first-team defense, while the second-team offense and defense will square off against one another.
The first scrimmage saw the defense record a 40-point victory by showing an ability to get to the quarterback, as well as force the offense into several turnovers. The defense ended the day with 23 tackles for losses, 18 sacks, four interceptions and forced three fumbles.
Sophomore-to-be Jabara Williams led the 'Jacks' defense with 11 tackles, including five sacks, two interceptions, one which he returned 60 yards for the score, and a forced fumble. Junior Tim Knicky recorded seven stops, including two sacks, and forced a fumble.
Quarterback Jeremy Moses looked good in the pocket completing 21-of-31 passes (.667) for 219 yards. Moses connected on scoring strikes of 40 and 21 yards. He also hit on his first eight attempts, including a 40-yard scoring strike to senior Tyrell Williams to cap the first drive of the day.
Following Friday's scrimmage SFA will only five workouts remaining on the spring schedule. SFA will close out spring drills Saturday, April 19 with the annual Spring Game. It is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium. The game is free and open to the public.
