NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Josh Alexander has been named to his second All-American team of the year. Alexander was among the 21 players listed Monday on the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-America team. Last week, Alexander was named to the CollegeHoops.net honorable-mention All-American squad.
Monday's announcement marks the third All-America honor in Alexander's three-year career. The Shreveport, La., native was named to the CollegeInsider.com Freshman All-American team in 2005-06, his first year on campus. That season, Alexander led the Lumberjacks in both scoring and rebounding and also earned Southland Conference Freshman of the Year accolades.
This season, Alexander was SFA's top scorer and rebounder for the third consecutive campaign and was rewarded by being named the SLC Player of the Year. He scored 16.1 points per game and pulled down 5.9 rebounds per contest to help lead the Lumberjacks to a 26-6 record and the program's first-ever Southland Conference championship. The 26-6 mark is the best for an SFA team since joining NCAA Division I for the 1986-87 season and ranks fourth all-time in Lumberjack single-season win totals for any level of competition.
In addition to being named the SLC Player of the Year, Alexander was named the Southland Player of the Year by the CollegeInsider.com staff.
SFA head coach Danny Kaspar earned CollegeInsider.com SLC Coach of the Year billing, sharing the honor with Steve Roccaforte, head coach of co-champion Lamar. Kaspar is also one of 10 finalists for the 2008 Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year award. The winner will be announced at the Final Four.
