NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Southland Conference softball game with Southeastern Louisiana Sunday was called due to lightning and heavy rain. The decision to cancel play was made after an initial 20-minute lightning delay turned into a deluge of rain that sent both teams from the field in search of shelter.
Sunday's game was to be the finale in the three-game series. The teams split Saturday's series-opening double-header, with the Lady Lions taking Game 1 and SFA winning the second.
SFA scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Jessica Tullos doubled down the left-field line to score Kendal Harper, who had reached base by taking a pitch off the elbow. The Ladyjacks scratched again when sophomore Briana Bishop laid down an excellent bunt on a squeeze play, scoring Moriah Davis from third.
SFA starter Monika Covington had held Southeastern scoreless on two hits with a pair of strikeouts through the first inning when the game was called.
The Ladyjacks will return to action Tuesday, when they travel to Shreveport, La., to take on Centenary in a 5:30 p.m. game.
