
UTA Defeats Ladyjacks

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks ran into a hot-shooting Texas-Arlington team Saturday afternoon at Texas Hall. UTA jumped out to a 33-8 lead, and rode that hot start to a 77-49 victory. The loss drops SFA to 10-16 on the season, and 7-7 in Southland Conference play.
UTA jumped out of the gate quickly shooting 54 percent from the floor to build a 25-point advantage. While the Lady Mavs were scoring on one end, SFA was one and done on the other. Stephen F. Austin started the 3-for-their-first-23. The Ladyjacks were also outrebounded, 28-19, in the opening half.
The Lady Mavs took a 39-14 lead into the locker room. UTA held the Ladyjacks to a 5-for-32 (.156) first-half performance, while UTA connected on 16-of-31 shots in the opening half. UTA was also able to force the Ladyjacks into 10 first-half turnovers.
UTA came out of the locker room and didn't miss a beat extending their lead to as many as 40 points by connecting on 9-of-their-first-10 shots in the second half. SFA finished the game 18-of-67 (.296), while Texas-Arlington shot 52 percent. The Lady Mavs also outrebounded SFA, 55-34.
The Ladyjacks had three players in double-figures led by senior Nikki Carr who scored 13. Freshman Jordan Ford scored 11, and junior Natashia Green added 10. The Lady Mavs were led by Tamarra Simmons' 16 points. Tiffeny Riles scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for Texas-Arlington.
The Ladyjacks return to action Wednesday, March 5, when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, to take on the Islanders. The game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the American Bank Center.
