OXFORD, Miss. - Stephen F. Austin dropped two more games Saturday in the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic, stretching its losing streak to a season-long four games. The Ladyjacks lost, 2-0, in extra innings against Troy in the first game, then dropped a 3-2 decision against Jacksonville State Saturday afternoon to move to 11-8 on the season.
Freshman pitcher Monika Covington tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits in the process, before Troy put together two hits - the second a two-run double - in the eighth inning.
The Ladyjacks began the bottom of the eighth with Michele Huffman on second base, in accordance with international tie-breaker rules, but SFA was retired in order on a groundout and two strikeouts to end the game.
Covington (7-3) finished with one earned run on five hits and two walks. She struck out three.
SFA recorded three hits with Monica Hirsch, Kari Hugie and Moriah Davis each picking up one.
In the second game, the Ladyjacks put up a two spot in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, but Jacksonville State countered with two runs in the bottom half and took a 3-2 win. Kendal Harper led off the fourth with a single, and Jessica Tullos homered two at-bats later to give SFA its first lead of the day.
But Jacksonville State took advantage of an error and a walk in the bottom of the inning and re-took the lead with a two-run triple.
SFA led off the seventh with a single by Tullos. She moved to second on a sac bunt by Briana Bishop and took third on a groundout, but was stranded there to end the game.
Tullos went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in the game. Harper and Davis added SFA's only other base hits.
Hugie (1-3) started and pitched the entire game, allowing one earned run on seven hits and a pair of walks.
The Ladyjacks will wrap up their play in the Red and Blue Classic Sunday with a 9 a.m. game against Belmont.
