HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team brought home four individual titles, one school record and one Southland Conference record from the Houston-Bayou City Classic Saturday at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse. The 'Jacks recorded individual titles in the weight throw and the 3,000 meters, while the Ladyjacks recorded victories in the 400-meter dash and women's weight throw.
In what has become a weekly occurrence for Frednisha Marshall, the sophomore only added to her 2008 trophy case by winning the women's weight throw Saturday. She recorded a throw of 61-11.00 to set a new SFA and conference record in the event for the second time this season. The mark was also an NCAA provisional mark, which makes Marshall SFA's the second NCAA qualifier of the season. If that wasn't enough, she also recorded a third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 46-8.25, just beating out classmate Kaitlyn Andrews (45-7.75).
Not to be outdone by his classmate, and fellow weight thrower, sophomore Matt Langdon wrapped up an SFA sweep in the event when he won the men's weight throw with a mark of 60-10.00. Classmate Martin Agoes joined Langdon in the top five by recording a toss of 51-1.75 to finish fourth overall.
The 'Jacks' other individual title came from Keith Mahipala in the 3,000 meters. Mahipala paced a strong contingent of SFA runners that placed four in the top 10, and three in the top six.
