NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's soccer program announced Thursday the addition of three student-athletes for the 2008 season. Katie O'Briant, Janae Lee and Stephanie Brown have all signed national letters of intent to continue their educations and play soccer at SFA.
O'Briant is a 5-4 forward/midfielder from Colleyville, Texas. In four years on the soccer team at Grapevine High School, she earned two first-team all-district awards and was twice named the district's offensive MVP. O'Briant was the top goal-scorer in the district each of her last two seasons. She spent three years playing premier league club soccer for the Texas Spirit. O'Briant also spent one year playing in the North Texas regional pool of the Olympic Development Program. Her squad won the regional championship, and she participated in the 2006 ODP regional camp. Katie is the daughter of Mark and Pamela O'Briant.
Lee is a 5-2 forward from Duncanville, Texas. As a four-year starter on the pitch for Duncanville High, she has earned all-district recognition three times. Lee was a first-team all-district selection as a junior, after earning second-team honors her sophomore year and honorable mention recognition as a freshman. So far in her senior campaign, Lee has put up 11 goals and four assists. She finished her junior season with nine goals and 10 assists. Lee is an eight-year veteran of the club soccer circuit. She spent four years with the Texas Image 90 squad, followed by two seasons each with the DFW Tejanos 90 and FC Dallas 90. Janae is the daughter of Fredrick and Cookie Lee.
Brown is a 5-7 defender from Katy, Texas. She has started all four seasons for the Cinco Ranch High School soccer team and is a three-time all-district honoree. Brown was named the district's defensive MVP in 2006 as a sophomore. She was a second-team selection in both 2005 and 2007. This spring, Brown was named to the I-10 All-Tournament team. She has played club soccer for the Eclipse 90 Black squad since 2002 and played for the Texas Premier FC from 1999-02. Stephanie is the daughter of Kevin and Paula Brown.
The three prep additions join a Ladyjacks team coming off one of the best seasons in school history. SFA won both the Southland Conference regular-season and tournament championships -- the first time in program history for the Ladyjacks to win both titles in the same season -- and finished the year with a 13-5-2 overall record.
Following the season, Ladyjack head coach Jaime Frias left to accept the head coaching position at Nevada. The SFA athletic department is currently in the midst of a national search to find Frias' replacement.
