Stephen F. Austin standout receiver Dominique Edison has been selected to play in the Texas vs. the Nation all-star game in January. The all-star game will be played Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. MT, and will be televised nationally on the CBS College Sports Network.
The all-star game pits top collegiate players originally from the state of Texas, or who played college football in Texas, against other top players from around the nation. In its third season of existence, the two teams have split the first two meetings with the Nation team winning the inaugural meeting.
Edison is coming off a record-setting senior campaign at SFA. The 6-3, San Augustine, native earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors after hauling in a school record 67 catches for 1016 yards, and a conference record 18 touchdowns in 2008. Edison became only the fourth Lumberjack to record 1,000 yards receiving in a single season, and leaves SFA as the school's all-time leader with 182 receptions, second all-time in school history with 2,696 receiving yards and is second all-time with 28 touchdown receptions.
The all-star game set a record by having 79 players from its inaugural game sign an NFL contract. That was the most players to sign an NFL contract from any first-year bowl, and has had 30 players drafted in the previous two seasons.
