LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team scored the first 10 points of the game, but McNeese State rallied for a 42-31 victory Saturday night at Cowboy Stadium. The loss drops SFA to 4-6 (.400) on the season, and 2-3 (.400) in Southland Conference play.
The Lumberjack offense appeared to be on its way to another high-scoring night scoring 10 points on its first two drives, but it was McNeese State that finished with the big night. After being stuffed on its opening drive, the Cowboys turned to their run game, and league-leading rusher Todd Pendland. The Lumberjacks didn't have an answer for Pendland who finished the game with 39 carries for a career-high 242 yards and three touchdowns. Pendland's effort was the second-best mark in school history.
The Cowboys finished the game with 512 yards of total offense, including 299 yards on the ground. SFA finished the game with 464 yards of total offense, and another strong effort on the ground. Texas A&M transfer Cornell Tarrant recorded his second consecutive 100-yard rushing effort. He finished the game with 15 carries for 115 yards.
Only a week after senior Dominique Edison record the third-best single-game receiving mark in school history with 13 catches, junior Duane Brooks equaled that mark with 13 grabs for a career-high 139 yards and one score. Edison finished the night with 11 catches for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Edison becomes the school's all-time leading receiving in the game. He broke the mark with his fourth reception of the night, and now has 174 receptions for his career.
Sophomore quarterback Jeremy Moses finished the night completing 31-of-49 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns. Classmate Terrance Nurse led the Lumberjack defensive effort with his game-high 11 tackles.
The `Jacks return to action Saturday, Nov. 15, when they will host Central Arkansas. The game against the Bears is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
