'JACKS FACE MCNEESE STATE IN 2008 ROAD FINALE: After rattling off three consecutive wins, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack (4-5/2-2 SLC) football team will be looking to rebound from consecutive conference losses as they travel to Lake Charles, La., to take on McNeese State. The No. 18 Cowboys (5-3/2-2 SLC) are coming off a 24-14 victory at Southeastern Louisiana, but are 0-2 at home in conference games this season. The game is slated to kick off from Cowboy Stadium at 7 p.m.
SFA vs. THE COWBOYS: The Lumberjacks are 10-15-2 (.407) all-time against McNeese State, and have dropped three consecutive, and five of the last six meetings in the series. The lone victory during that stretch was a 55-7 thumping in Nacogdoches during the 2004 season. Saturday's contest marks the first game in Lake Charles since the 2005 season when the Cowboys recorded a 33-23 victory.
RECORDS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN: Despite the loss at Sam Houston State, the Lumberjacks dominated the offensive stats breaking numerous school, conference and NCAA records. Sophomore quarterback Jeremy Moses set SFA, SLC and NCAA records for pass completions (57) and pass attempts (85). The 'Jacks set a new school record with 36 first down against the Bearkats. SFA also set a new school, SLC and NCAA Division I record by running 116 total plays. It was also the first time in school history that an SFA team had run 100 plays in a game. Moses set a new school record running 93 total plays. Senior wide receiver Dominique Edison hauled in 13 passes for 121 yards. The 13 receptions are the third-best single-game mark in school history.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Despite the setback, sophomore quarterback Jeremy Moses threw touchdown passes 30-33 on the season. Moses becomes only the second Lumberjack in school history (Todd Hammel, 1989) to throw at least 30 touchdown passes in a single season. He also becomes only the second Lumberjack to throw for at least 3,000 yards in a single season (Todd Hammel, 1989).
TOTALLY OFFENSIVE: The Lumberjacks rolled up 575 yards of total offense against the Bearkats. It is the second best output by a Lumberjack team this season, and the most against an NCAA Division I school this year.
Up Next: The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, when they will host Central Arkansas. The game against the Bears is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
