
SFA Kicker Earns Academic Honor

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior placekicker Cory Long has been named 2008 First-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District announced CoSIDA officials Thursday morning.
Nominated athletes must maintain a 3.2 grade point average, while being a starter or significant reserve. Athletes must also have competed in at least half of the team's competitions, and be of sophomore academic standing.
Long is the midst of his best season in a Lumberjack uniform. He is currently eighth in the conference in scoring, among kickers, averaging 6.0 points per game. He is also among the league's top 10 in field goals. Long is one of only two kickers in the Southland Conference who is perfect in extra point attempts.
Long has scored 54 points during his senior season, and is currently fourth all-time in school history with 208 points. His is only 12 points shy of his career high 66 which he set during his freshman season.
Also a standout in the classroom, Long was a 2006 Academic All-SLC selection, and a 2006 Division I-AA Athletic Director's Association Academic All-Star. A 2005 honorable mention All-SLC selection, Long was a semifinalists for the 2008 Draddy Trophy.
