'Jacks Rally to Win Cuthbert Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team rallied from seven strokes down, to record the lowest round of the day to force a sudden death playoff against USC-Upstate at the 2008 Cuthbert Cup in Charleston, S.C., Tuesday morning. The Lumberjacks won the playoff, and the 2008 Cuthbert Cup team title. The 'Jacks shot a 20-over par 884 (299-288-297) to win the title.
SFA was paced by sophomore Kyle Robbins who shot a five-under par 211 to win the individual title. He maintained his lead despite recording his highest round of the tournament Tuesday with a two-over 74.
Classmate Michael Smith was 11 strokes off Robbins' pace with a six-over par 222. Smith finished the tournament tied for 13th overall. Senior Chad Spencer recorded his second lowest round of the tournament posting a 75, to finish with an eight-over 224. Spencer's score placed him 17th overall. Junior Josh Irving was tied for 21st overall after shooting a 79-73-75-227. Freshman Stetson McMillan struggled in the final round posting an 81. He finished 34th overall with a 235.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday when they travel to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the SHSU Men's Invitational. The Lumberjacks will be in action two of the next three weeks.
