SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead but could not hold on against Texas State, as the host Bobcats came back to pull out a 3-2 (25-27, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-10) victory in front of 893 fans at Strahan Coliseum on Thursday.
SFA (16-6, 7-3 SLC) was in position to hand the first-place Bobcats (17-12, 10-1 SLC) only their second loss in conference play, but the Ladyjacks only managed to hit .106 in the final three sets compared to a .284 mark for Texas State in that same span.
It is the first win for Texas State in the regular season in eight chances, but their second straight in five sets after defeating the Ladyjacks in the 20087 SLC Tournament championship match in five sets as well.
Lauren Railey picked up her third consecutive double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs, with Kelsey Owens adding another 15 kills on 42 tries. Laurel Kuepker went over 30 digs for the second time this season, posting 31 in the five-set affair.
The Ladyjacks also got plenty of efficiency from the service line, dropping in 10 aces on the night with four players registering at least two apiece.
Texas State got 18 kills and 15 digs from Lawrencia Brown, while the two-headed setting combo of Shelbi Irvin and Brittany Collins combined for 50 assists.
SFA stays on the road this weekend as they take on UT-Arlington at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ladyjacks finish out the home portion of the season next week with matches against Central Arkansas and Northwestern State.
