CONWAY, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team rebounded from a pair of Southland Conference defeats with a 3-0 win at Central Arkansas Friday night. The victory comes on the heels of home losses against UTSA and Texas State and keeps the Ladyjacks perfect in SLC road games.
With the win, SFA moves to 7-7-0 on the season with a 4-2-0 record in SLC play. Central Arkansas fell to 3-9-1 overall with a 1-4-1 mark against league competition.
Ladyjack senior Amanda Alders scored twice in the first four minutes to stake SFA to an early lead, then assisted on a third goal in the second half. Meanwhile, SFA held UCA to just nine shots and staved off some prime opportunities for the Bears in taking the victory.
"I'm very happy with the win," said SFA head coach George Van Linder. "We fought hard. This game could have easily been 2-2. Our defense and Amanda Alders were great today."
Alders' first goal came at the 1:05 mark. Junior Brenna Crockett was credited with the assist, while the scoring strike came on the game's first shot.
SFA's second goal came just 2:11 after the first. It was set in motion on a corner kick by Camille Royer. A Central Arkansas player tried to head the ball out of the box, but sent it straight up into the air, instead. Alders got under the ball and headed it into the net for her fourth goal of the year.
The pair of goals marked Alders' seventh career multi-goal game, but her first since scoring twice in a win at Oral Roberts on Sept. 16 of last season.
Sophomore Kesia Broome added the final goal of the game in the 65th minute with Alders taking the assist on the play. The goal was Broome's fourth of the year, moving her into a three-player tie with Alders and Crockett for second on the team this season.
For the game, SFA out-shot the Bears, 22-9, and held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Ladyjack goalkeeper Courtney Bauder recorded four saves -- all in the first half -- to improve her record to 7-6-0.
The Ladyjacks will conclude their final road trip of the regular season on Sunday, when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to take on Northwestern State. The Demons came into Friday's action tied with SFA for third place in the SLC. They were scheduled to take on Sam Houston State Friday night. Sunday's game is set for a 2 p.m. start.
