THIBODAUX, La. - 'JACKS GO IN SEARCH OF CONSECUTIVE SLC WINS: After its 49-0 thrashing of Kentucky Wesleyan, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team (3-3/1-0 SLC) returns to Southland Conference play Saturday, Oct. 18, when it travels to Thibodaux, La., to face the Nicholls Colonels. The Colonels (0-3/0-1) enter the contest still looking for their first victory of the season, while the Lumberjacks will be looking to make it three in a row, and two straight in conference play. The Colonels are coming off a 36-28 heartbreaker that saw them surrender nine unanswered points in the fourth quarter at Northwestern State. The game is slated to kick off at 2 p.m. from Guidry Stadium.
SFA vs. THE COLONELS: The Lumberjacks are 17-7 (.708) all-time against Nicholls, but dropped a 17-16 decision to the Colonels last season in Nacogdoches. The two teams have split the last four decisions, but 'Jacks have won seven of the last nine meetings between the two teams.
SPECIAL TEAMS SHINE: The SFA special teams continue to provide game-changing moments. Sophomore Jabara Williams blocked a Brandon Hodnett field goal in the second quarter against Kentucky Wesleyan. Williams followed up the block by picking up the loose ball and rambling 72 yards for the touchdown. It is the fourth consecutive week SFA has blocked either a punt or a field goal try, and their sixth block of the season. The 'Jacks blocked one kick all of last season.
JUST PLAIN OFFENSIVE: The Lumberjacks came into the matchup against Kentucky Wesleyan having scored 48 points in its previous two games, and posted 49 against the Panthers. Earlier in the year SFA scored 56 against Langston, making this the first season in program history the 'Jacks have scored at least 48 points in four games in one year. All four games have been at Homer Bryce Stadium, where SFA is now averaging 50.3 points per game in 2008.
DECLAWING THE PANTHERS: The Lumberjacks recorded a 49-0 shutout over Kentucky Wesleyan, marking the first time SFA has shutout an opponent since defeating No. 6 Youngstown State, in Youngstown, during the 1995 season. It is the 'Jacks first home shutout since recording a 51-0 decision over Henderson State during the 1994 season.
RETURNING HOME: The Lumberjack football team will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 25, at Homer Bryce Stadium to take on Texas State. The Homecoming game against the Bobcats is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
