
Long Named Draddy Trophy Semifinalist

DALLAS, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior kicker Cory Long has been named a National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Draddy Trophy semifinalist NFF officials announced Wednesday afternoon. Long is one of 164 athletes, and one of only 43 NCAA Division I FCS athletes to make the list. Billed as the "Academic Heisman," the award was established to honor former NFF Chairman Vincent DePaul Draddy, a former Manhattan College quarterback.
Student-athletes must be seniors, or graduate students in their final year of eligibility, and maintain a 3.5 grade-point average to be nominated. They also must be a first-team player, or significant contributor who has demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
One of only 19 special teams players to be nominated, Long currently leads the 'Jacks in scoring. A former Academic All-Southland Conference, and honorable mention All-SLC honoree, Long is a perfect 17-of-17 on extra-point attempts, and is 2-of-3 (.667) on field goals, including a season-long of 46 yards, this season. Long is currently ninth all-time in school history with 177 career points.
The NFF Committee will select and announce up to 15 finalists on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The Draddy winner will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the NFF's Annual Awards Dinner at the prestigious Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.
