Ladyjacks Open SLC Play Against Nicholls State

The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to put an end to a four-game skid Thursday when it opens Southland Conference play with a two-game homestand. The Ladyjacks will play host to Nicholls State Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions will follow Nicholls State into the Coliseum Saturday, Jan.12, for a 6 p.m. showdown. The Colonels enter Thursday's contest 2-9 (.182) on the season, but have split their last two games. Southeastern Louisiana (6-7) enters the week having dropped its last two contests, and coming off a 10-point setback at Alabama.
The Ladyjacks are an impressive 33-2 (.943) all-time against Nicholls State. The series dates back to the 1984-85 season where NSU recorded a two-point victory, 53-51. Following that setback, the Ladyjacks rattled off 32 consecutive victories in the series. Thursday's meeting will mark the first time the two teams have met in Nacogdoches since the 2005-06 season when SFA recorded an 80-56 victory. The Ladyjacks won the only meeting between the two schools last year with a 76-63 decision in Thibodaux, La.
Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley has compiled a dominant record against Southland Conference foes. Riley is 74-30 (.712) against SLC teams during the regular season.
The Ladyjacks recorded the program's 797th all-time victory with their 84-81 overtime win at Missouri. The Ladyjacks are now only three wins shy of No. 800. That victory would put SFA in some very elite company. Only five other NCAA Division I schools have recorded at least 800 wins. The list includes Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Texas and James Madison. There is one other school that is on pace to record it's 800th victory this season. Tennessee Tech currently has 785 all-time wins.
The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 355-92 (.794) all-time record. SFA has won 24 of its last 31 games in the Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are 1-3 (.250) at home this season.
Senior Nikki Carr became the sixth Ladyjack in program history to record 100 career three-pointers with her lone triple against Nevada. She is sixth all-time at SFA with 111 career three-pointers.
Senior Nikki Carr is in the process of rewriting the Ladyjack record books in her final season. Not only is she among the school's all-time top 10 in three-point field goals (111), she needs only 34 more points to become the 23 Ladyjack to score 1,000 career points. At Tulsa, Carr moved onto the school's all-time top 10 list in assists. She dished out three against the Golden Hurricane, and currently has 343 for her career. Carr is also sixth all-time in SFA history with 227 career steals.
