NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to put two road losses in their rearview mirror this week as they get set for their divisional clash with Sam Houston State. The Bearkats (1-16/0-4 SLC) enter Saturday's game trying to fight their way out of an 11-game losing skid, after a three-point victory over Western Illinois earlier this season. The game against Sam Houston State is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Saturday's game will also be Sue Gunter Day on campus. At halftime of the game, their will be a special video presentation in honor of the legendary coach, followed by the dedication of the Sue Gunter Ladyjack Basketball Office Suite.
The Ladyjacks are an impressive 57-5 (.919) against Sam Houston State, including a winning streak of four consecutive. The Ladyjacks longest win streak in the series is 30 games which came between 1984-85 and 1997-98 seasons. The series dates back to the 1972-73 season when SFA recorded a 51-50 victory. The Ladyjacks swept the 2006-07 season series from the Bearkats.
SFA recorded the program's 799th all-time victory with their 59-50 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Ladyjacks are now only one win shy of No. 800. That victory would put SFA in some very elite company. Only five other NCAA Division I schools have recorded at least 800 wins. The list includes Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Texas and James Madison. There is one other school that has an outside chance at recording it's 800th victory this season. Tennessee Tech currently has 786 all-time wins.
The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 357-92 (.795) all-time record. SFA has won 26 of its last 33 games in the Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are 3-3 (.500) at home this season.
Senior Nikki Carr became the 23rd Ladyjack in program history to join the 1,000-point club. Carr scored 12 points in the game, but she joined the club with her fifth point of the game, which came on a layup with 13:05 remaining in the second half.
