NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Thanks to an assist by the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team had one of the largest crowds in the last decade on hand to help cheer them on to a victory over Lamar last Thursday night.
SFA drew an estimated 4,309 fans to the game -- an 81-75 victory -- as part of Cram the Coliseum night, a joint promotional effort between the SFA Athletics Department and the Nacogdoches Chamber. The Chamber contributed by mailing out 850 books of tickets -- 8,500 tickets total -- for the game. The tickets were donated by SFA Athletics for use at last Thursday's game against Lamar or this weekend's women's game against Sam Houston State.
Roughly 860 tickets were used last week with the remainder still good for Saturday's Ladyjack game against Sam Houston. The game against the Bearkats will feature a special ceremony at halftime to honor Sue Gunter, a former SFA head coach, and a legend in the game of women's college basketball.
Saturday's game is set for a 3 p.m. start from William R. Johnson Coliseum.
