NACOGDOCHES - For the first time in school history the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will play a 12-game regular-season schedule announced SFA head coach J.C. Harper Saturday morning. The 'Jacks' 2008 schedule is highlighted by seven home dates, and will include trips to TCU and Western Illinois.
"We are facing another tough schedule this season, but we are looking forward to the challenge." said Harper. "TCU is always a contender for the Mountain West Conference title. The rest of the non-conference slate is strong as well with two teams who were ranked among FCS top 25 for a majority of the 2007 season. Then we enter the demanding Southland Conference portion of our schedule. Every week within the conference presents a tough challenge."
The Lumberjacks will kickoff the 2008 schedule Saturday, Aug. 30, against Langston. SFA will travel to Fort Worth the following week to take on TCU. The game against the Horned Frogs will mark the first time the two schools have hooked up on the gridiron. SFA will be back in Nacogdoches Saturday, Sept. 13, to host Kentucky Wesleyan.
SFA will travel to Macomb, Ill., Saturday, Sept. 20, to battle Western Illinois in its final non-conference road game of the year. The 'Jacks close out non-conference play the next week against South Dakota State. The game against the Jack Rabbits also represents one of two two-game homestands for SFA in '08.
Following a bye week, SFA will open conference play against Southeastern Louisiana, before heading to southern Louisiana for an Oct. 18 date against Nicholls State. The Lumberjacks will be back at Homer Bryce Stadium Saturday, Oct. 25, for a Homecoming tilt against Texas State. The game against the Bobcats will mark the final home date before SFA heads out for its longest road swing of the season.
SFA will travel to Sam Houston State (Nov. 1) and McNeese State (Nov. 8) before returning home to close out the year with consecutive dates against Central Arkansas and Northwestern State. SFA will host the Bears Saturday, Nov. 15, and close out the regular-season schedule Nov. 22 with the annual "Battle for Chief Caddo."
The Lumberjacks play all home games at Homer Bryce Stadium. All SFA home games will kickoff at 6 p.m., with the exception of the Homecoming game against Texas State, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
