After rave reviews SFAJacks.com is bringing back the 2007 volleyball player's diary, this year with junior outside hitter Shelly Swendig.
Monday shortly after practice, we hit the road for Denton to play the Mean Green of UNT. The bus ride was uncharacteristically short, and we were even able to catch up with our old friend, former Ladyjack Cristin Hopkin, before we hit the sack. The next day, we loaded back onto the bus for our first shopping excursion of the season. Pretty much everyone made a purchase of some sort, and I must say, I bought a pretty sweet necklace.
We ate lunch at La Madeleine, where Ray, Kelsie, and Bri discovered that putting salt on butter makes it hot. We then proceeded on to the gym, or barn, whichever you prefer. The Mean Green provided some solid competition for us, but we were able to sweep them in three.
Before we knew it, the time had come to play some more ball, and Friday evening, we started the 16-step program, also known as conference play. Our first step was against Northwestern State, who we had already beaten just a few weeks ago. This game would fare no different, as we beat them handily in three, and we were off the court within an hour and a half.
Saturday it was time for our one and only shot against the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas. It was Parent's Day on campus, so everyone was excited to see their folks, and I even think we drew a crowd of meandering parents and students looking for some good clean fun. Games one and three were relatively close, but we were able to add yet another team on the list of three-game sweeps and sent the Sugar Bears home with no honey. I'm embarrassed that I just said that. Life could not have been too bad for them, though, as they had a totally stellar bus waiting for them in the parking lot.
This Friday, we continue conference play against UTSA in Nacogdoches, and again on Saturday versus TAMUCC. Come join us for some action against some great competition!
