NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team returns to action Saturday to face No. 19 (The Sports Network Top 25 poll) Western Illinois. The game against WIU is slated to kickoff at 6 p.m., from Homer Bryce Stadium, and the first 100 fans to purchase a ticket at the gate will receive a second ticket free. The promotion will take place at the stadium's Southeast Ticket booth, and the gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
The Lumberjacks enter the game looking for their first victory of the season, after dropping a heartbreaker at No. 4 North Dakota State, 28-19. The 'Jacks led 16-14 at halftime, and were able to move the ball up and down the field despite injuries to their top two running backs in the season opener. The SFA defense was even more depleted due to injuries but had a big night forcing the nation's fourth-ranked team into five turnovers, including four interceptions.
Western Illinois heads to Nacogdoches with a 2-1 (.667) overall record, after defeating St. Francis (Ill.), 69-0, Saturday in Macomb, Ill. One of the nation's best rushing attacks, the Leathernecks are coming off a dominating performance that saw them post 519 rushing yards against St. Francis during the third week of the season.
