
SFA Blasts Golden Eagles

TULSA, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team exploded for a season-high five goals Sunday to knock off Oral Roberts, 5-1. The win, coupled with SFA's 1-1 tie against Tulsa Friday, gave the Ladyjacks the championship in ORU-TU Invitational with a 1-0-1 record in the event.
SFA's offensive outburst was led by junior forward Amanda Alders, who finished with two goals and an assist. She was named the tournament's Ooffensive MVP, after amassing seven total points, including her goal in the Ladyjacks' game against Tulsa. Sophomore defender Jenna Turner made it an SFA sweep in the MVP honors, taking the Devensive MVP award. Turner scored the Ladyjacks' second goal Sunday. Junior Amanda Lackey and freshman Brittney Barker joined Alders and Turner on the All-Tournament team, giving SFA a tournament-best four overall selections.
Sophomore forward Erika Palmacci opened the scoring in the 11th minute when she headed an unassisted goal past the ORU goalkeeper. Turner added to the SFA lead 10 minutes later when she took a pass from junior Summer Bradfield and slipped it past the 'keeper.
Alders got in on the act in the 31st minute when headed home a goal off a cross by sophomore Megan Cash. The Golden Eagles got on the board in the 39th minute, when Brittany Winslow snuck into the SFA goal box and registered her first goal of the season.
Alders stretched the lead back to three early in the second half. She scored unassisted in the 69th minute, then assisted on Barker's goal 36 seconds later to set the final score.
The Ladyjack defense held ORU to 11 shots with only five on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Crystin Pactor started and played 77 minutes, recording four saves. Freshman Courtney Bauder logged 12 minutes in net for SFA.
With the win, the Ladyjacks evened their record at 2-2-1. SFA will return to action Friday when it hosts Louisiana Tech. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start from the SFA Soccer Complex.
