HOUSTON, Texas - The Ladyjacks went the full five games for the fourth time against Conference USA opponents on Saturday night, pulling out a 3-2 (30-24, 25-30, 30-20, 24-30, 15-10) over Rice in the conclusion of the Houston Tournament on Saturday.
"This was a good win," head coach Debbie Humphreys said. "We are definitely still learning, but we had to fight for this one and it's always good to see the girls keep fighting."
SFA (8-5, 0-0) shared the wealth offensively with six players registering at least five kills in hitting .273 for the match. That hitting percentage is the highest that SFA has put up all season.
Lauren Railey turned in a 15-kill, 13-dig performance and Whitney Schott and JJ Jones each tallied over 20 assists in leading the Ladyjack attack.
SFA hit as high as .500 in the fifth game and never dropped below the .149 mark. Rice (5-8) had four players register at least 13 kills, led by Jessica Holderness with a match-high 20.
The Ladyjacks will have one final tune up at North Texas on Tuesday before opening up Southland Conference play on Friday against Northwestern State at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
