After rave reviews SFAJacks.com is bringing back the 2007 volleyball player's diary, this year with junior outside hitter Shelly Swendig.
This past weekend we stayed at home to play in our own tournament. Friday in between classes, we went to pass out suckers and candy to promote our games in "the yard," or "the quad" as some may say. Sadly, however, many students informed us that they would prefer to participate in "activities" during the weekend then watch us play.
After our classes, we headed to the coliseum for a short practice, and then proceeded on to Chili's for a pre-game meal. For the record, Chili's may not have been the best choice, but it worked out alright since we were able to take care of Northwestern with relative ease.
Saturday we beat Louisiana-Monroe in three quick games and hung around the town until our final match of the tournament against Tulsa, whom SFA has never beaten. At times, some of us were worried that an all-out brawl might ensue as a result of some questionable calls, but after an intense, emotional five-game match, your SFA Ladyjacks came out on top without any-hand-to hand combat - though we were accused of poking their setter in the eye.
We did end up with a season record crowd for our match against Tulsa, and a special thanks to those students who came out and participated in the 2007 Dorm Challenge, in which Kerr Hall and the Village were co-winners with the most students participating. Also, thanks to Student President Kent Willis and his group that painted their bodies and were loud fans the entire game. We really appreciate it, and it definitely helps our energy out on the court!
This weekend we mosey on down to the University of Houston, where we will compete against the Cougars, Wake Forest, and Rice in hopes of increasing our record to 9-4, and extending our winning streak to eight.
