WACO, Texas - The Ladyjacks' volleyball team stopped its four-match losing streak with a convincing 3-1 (31-29, 26-30, 30-27, 30-22) win over Mississippi State (3-3, 0-0)in the finale of the Baylor Invitational.
SFA(2-4, 0-0) had a pair of setters lead the offense from opposite ends of the age spectrum as senior JJ Jones had 26 assists, but freshman Whitney Schott had a coming-out party of her own as she had 21 assists of her own.
The pair directed a trio of Ladyjacks to double-figure kills led by Lauren Railey with 14. Shelly Swendig would add 11 kills of her own. Jones, however, would add 10 kills and a match-high 24 digs for the team's first triple-double of the year on her way to all-tournament honors.
The win is SFA's second consecutive win over an SEC opponent as the Ladyjacks knocked off Alabama in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament.
SFA will open up home action on Tuesday when SMU invades William R. Johnson Coliseum for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Ladyjacks will follow that up with the Austin Bank Ladyjack Invitational starting Friday.
