NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team wrapped up the final day of practice Sunday before classes begin for the 2007 fall semester. The Lumberjacks took to the field for a light workout Sunday afternoon before heading to the William R. Johnson Coliseum to receive their lettermen awards for the 2006 season. The 'Jacks wrapped up the evening with a team meeting in the Coliseum.
Classes for the 2007 fall semester will begin Monday morning, which means the 'Jacks are now in the game week preparations. SFA will open its 2007 season Saturday when it faces Tarleton State. The Texans enter the contest with a 1-0 overall record after knocking off East Central this past week in Stephenville, Texas. The game against the Texans is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
The annual `Meet the 'Jacks' will be Monday, Aug. 27 at the Grand Ballroom in the Baker Pattillo Student Center. Tickets for the event are $10, and include a barbecue dinner.
The Lumberjacks are coming off a 4-7 season last year. After getting out to an 0-5 start, the 'Jacks rallied to close out the season with a 4-2 (.667) record and finished tied for second in the Southland Conference.
