'Jacks Prepare for Second Scrimmage

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team wrapped up its second week of fall camp Friday by conducting a more relaxed schedule compared to the previous days. The team skipped its scheduled workout time, and took part in a short walkthrough before going to position meetings.
The Lumberjacks will pick up the pace again Saturday morning when they return to the field for their second of three scheduled scrimmages. The scrimmage, which was originally scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., has been moved to a 9 a.m. start at Homer Bryce Stadium. The scrimmage will be similar to the first in that it will pit the first-team offense versus the first-team defense, and second-team offense against the second-team defense. The 'Jacks are slated to run approximately 100 plays in the contest.
During the first scrimmage, the Lumberjacks' run game was strong in the East Texas heat. Senior quarterback Danny Southall carried the ball six times for a game-high 80 yards, including a 44-yard scamper. Runnels carried the ball nine times for 37 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Vincent Pervis was also productive coming out of the backfield. He recorded seven carries for 31 yards, including a touchdown run of four yards.
Following Saturday's scrimmage the 'Jacks will not return to the practice field until Monday at 9 a.m. Monday's workout will be the team's third two-a-day practice of fall camp.
