FRISCO, Texas - Jared Pitts became Stephen F. Austin's third baseball player to receive the Aeropostale Southland Conference Hitter of the Week award this season, announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Pitts, who started off the week going 0-for-3 at Texas A&M Wednesday, had a "king kong" weekend against Nicholls State. In the opening game of the series, Pitts had one hit in four at-bats, hitting a home run over the left center field wall. Saturday, the Friendswood native was a perfect 5-for-5 against the Colonels. He hit two home runs in the outing - a three-run shot and a grand slam - and hit an RBI single to break an SFA single-game record with eight RBI. The right fielder finished the weekend with an infield single Sunday.
For the week, Pitts batted .438 with seven hits and five runs scored. He had one double, three home runs and nine RBI. The junior also had a slugging percentage of 1.063.
Pitts, who had been struggling at the plate recently, is now batting .318 and is second on the team with 56 hits, 40 RBI and 10 home runs.
