
UTSA Tops Ladyjacks

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Texas-San Antonio hit two home runs Sunday at Hoya Field to take a 5-2 win a 2-1 series victory over the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks. The loss leaves SFA's record at 19-29 overall and 12-12 against Southland Conference competition.
The Roadrunners scored five unanswered runs on a three-run homer in the third, then a solo blast, coupled with a bases-loaded ground-out in the fifth inning. The Ladyjacks responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Crystal Dahlquist and Kari Hugie hit back-to-back doubles, with Dahlquist scoring on Hugie's rope to right-center.
SFA scratched again in the seventh. Heather Hebert led off with a single to right, and pinch runner Candise Juarez moved to second on a base knock by Hugie. Juarez took third on a passed ball and scored when Kendal Harper lifted a single into right field. But SFA could not score again and ended the game with two runners on base.
Hugie (9-12) took the loss. She started and pitched all seven innings. Hugie allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The Ladyjacks' next game will be Tuesday, when SFA travels to Huntsville to play Sam Houston State. The three-game series will begin with a single game, starting at 6:30 p.m. SFA will finish the set with a double header Wednesday. The first game is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
