NACOGDOCHES - Lance Luetge and Russ Fornea held the Southland Conference leading Texas-San Antonio to five hits as they put together a 1-0 shut out over the Roadrunners Sunday afternoon at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches. Brian Ferguson drove in the only run in the bottom of the second inning to hand UTSA its first SLC series loss this season. The Lumberjacks improved their record to 23-19 overall and are now 10-8 in SLC play. UTSA fell to 24-17 on the year and have a 14-4 conference record.
After Justin Long was issued a two-out walk, Ferguson came up and hit his first double of the season into left center field to score the solo run.
Luetge gave up five hits over 8.1 innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. Fornea struck out one of two batters to earn his first save of the year.
UTSA starter Blake Brannon held the Lumberjacks to just three hits over eight innings. Noel Trevino, Steven Hill and Ferguson collected the hits.
The Lumberjacks will step out of Southland Conference action Tuesday evening in a 6:30 showdown with nationally ranked Texas A&M in College Station.
