SFA records three individual titles at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team produced several top-five finishes, including three individual titles and three NCAA Regional marks Saturday in the TCU Invitational at the Lowdon Track Complex. Senior Sarah Emerson was one of the top performers on the day for the Ladyjacks winning the individual title in the women's javelin's throw (133-5), while Darwin Johnson won the men's discus. Johnson recorded a throw of 168-11. Junior Justin Reyes also won an individual title for SFA. Reyes cleared an NCAA Regional qualifying height of 6-10.75 to share the high jump title with North Texas' Toby Edwards.
Along with the three individual titles, SFA produced several top-five performances on both the men's and women's side Saturday. Reyes wasn't the only Lumberjack in the top five of the men's high jump. Senior Ryder Peacock cleared a height of 6-8.75 to finish third overall. Freshman Josh Cruse finished second in the men's triple jump when he recorded a mark of 49-5.75. Cruse's jump was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships. Junior Kristina Windham also posted an NCAA Regional mark in the women's pole vault. Windham finished fifth overall when she cleared a height of 12-5.50.
Led by Emerson's victory in the javelin and Johnson's title in the discus, the SFA throwers had a big afternoon recording eight top-five marks. Senior Kenneth McKinley finished second in the shot put with a throw of 54-2.50. Classmate James Williams finished fifth in the event with a throw of 50-9.25. Redshirt freshman Matt Langdon finished fourth overall in the discus with a throw of 162-2, while McKinley placed fifth in the event (160-0). Langdon also recorded a top-five mark in the hammer throw finishing third overall with a mark of 172-0. Junior Markeshia Edwards finished second in the women's hammer throw with her mark of 167-7. Senior LaQuisha Houston was fifth in the event with throw of 153-9.
The 'Jacks' 4 x 100-meter relay team was fourth overall with a time of 41.35, while the 4 x 400-meter relay team recorded a time of 3:20.40. The Ladyjacks' 4 x 100-meter relay team recorded a fifth-place finish crossing the finish line with a time of 48.12.
Senior Chance Edwards was in Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Twilight meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium Saturday. Edwards finished fifth overall in the events fast section recording a time of 3:52.45. Edwards just missed the school record by less than four seconds.
