
TJC Halts Tennis Win Streak

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks' two-match win streak came to a halt Tuesday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to Tyler Junior College from the SFA Tennis Complex. SFA falls to 3-5 on the year. The Ladyjacks' three points came from their No.1, 2, and 3 singles in Roxana Enica, Laura Harrison, and Gabriela Gadeva, respectively. The wins gave the trio their third straight victories in two days.
TJC started off taking the doubles point from the Ladyjacks, giving the Apaches the edge in the final score.
After falling 6-4 in the first set, Enica came back to win the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker, 6-4. In No. 2 singles, Laura Harrison defeated Ashley Irvin 7-3, 7-6 (4). Gadeva then took a 6-3, 6-1 victory from Rachel Anders in No. 3 singles.
Rijalda Zejnic and Mary Harrison each took their matches into extra frames but neither were unable to pull through in the end. Zejnic started off the No. 5 match with a 7-5 win, but fell 3-6 in the next two sets. In No. 6 action, Mary Harrison took a 6-0 loss before taking a win by the same score. She lost the tie breaker, 6-3.
SFA returns to the court Saturday afternoon in its first Southland Conference match of the season. The match against Texas State is slated for a 2 p.m. start from the SFA Tennis Complex. The Ladyjacks will follow with a dual match against Texas-Arlington Sunday at 10 a.m.
