
SFA Tennis Sweeps Centenary, La. Tech

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team completed a sweep of Centenary College and Louisiana Tech Monday in Shreveport, La. The Ladyjacks took 7-0 wins from each team to improve their overall record to 3-4.
SFA faced Centenary in the first match of the day. The Ladyjacks took the doubles point after taking three straight wins. Roxana Enica and Laura Harrison took an 8-2 win from the Ladies' No. 1 doubles team while Lauren Nowicki and Mary Harrison took the 8-2 win n No. 2 doubles. Gabriela Gadeva and Rijalda Zejnic took the 8-3 win in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Shreveport native Laura Harrison defeated Christine Majchrowicz, 6-2, 6-0 in a No. 1 match-up while No. 3 seed Nowicki took a 6-1, 6-0 win from Lindsay Ezell, 6-1, 6-0. Mary Harrison also won by a score of 6-2, 6-0 and Nicole Schoenauer defeated Kate Buchanan, 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 play. Gadeva and Zejnic took the singles points for SFA after forfeit.
In the second match of the day, the Ladyjacks defeated Louisiana Tech. SFA took the doubles point after Enica and Laura Harrison won 8-0 and Gadeva and Zejnic won 8-2 in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. It was the third straight win for the Enica/Harrison duo at No. 1 singles and now sit with a 5-2 record as a team.
Enica played at No. 1 singles and defeated La. Tech's Monica Kelly 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. Laura Harrison took a 6-2, 6-2 win from Caroline Tran while Gadeva defeated Ashley Wedderburn 6-3, 6-0 in No. 3 play. Nowicki took the No. 4 singles point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ada Makowska. Zejnic, who had won the first set 6-4, won the No. 5 match when Alexandra Gasper retired when Zejnic had a 3-0 lead in the second set.
The Ladyjacks return to the court Tuesday afternoon against Tyler Junior College. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start from the SFA Tennis Complex.
