FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Josh Alexander has been named a Third-Team All-Southland Conference selection, league officials announced Tuesday. Alexander, a sophomore forward, is one of three all-conference honorees for the Lumberjacks, and this marks his second consecutive post-season All-SLC recognition.
Alexander was named the SLC Freshman of the Year last season. Along with Alexander's selection, senior center Antuane Miller and sophomore center Matt Kingsley were named to the All-SLC Honorable Mention list.
Alexander led the Lumberjacks (15-13, 8-8) in both scoring and rebounding for the second straight season. His 13.0 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per contest were good enough to rank 12th and 15th, respectively, in the Southland Conference through the end of the regular season. Alexander also ranked among SLC leaders in 3-point field goal percentage (.439) and 3-point field goals made (2.46 per game). He leads the team this season with 19 double-figure scoring performances and two double-doubles. Alexander has been the Lumberjacks' top scorer in 10 games this season and has led the club in rebounding 14 times.
Miller and Kingsley are each making their first appearances on the All-SLC list. In his first season as a regular starter, Kingsley has risen to the occasion. The redshirt sophomore from Houston is second only to Alexander in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game. He leads the team and is 15th in the conference in blocked shots with 20 rejections. Miller has made his mark as the Lumberjacks' sixth man this season. He averages 10.7 points per game coming off the bench and has scored in double digits 13 times this season, including nine team-leading performances.
The Lumberjacks open play in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Southland Conference Tournament Thursday at 2:30 p.m. SFA enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed after tying for third in the SLC West Division. The Lumberjacks will take on No. 3 Northwestern State. All tournament games will be played at the M.O. Campbell Center in Houston.
