Track & Field Records Three Regional Marks

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of competition in the Dogwood Invitational Saturday by winning 10 individual titles and recording three NCAA regional marks.
Junior Markeshia Edwards got the SFA throwers out to a strong start winning the women's shot put with her NCAA regional qualifying mark of 46-11.50. Edwards led a trio of Ladyjack throwers that swept the top three spots in the event. Freshman Kaitlyn Andrews finished second (46-7.25), while classmate Frednisha Marshall finished third with a throw of 44-5.25.
Senior Kenneth McKinley followed suit in the men's shot put winning the event with and just missing an NCAA regional mark (55-0.00). Junior Wade Whittington recorded an NCAA regional mark in the javelin. Whittington won the event with his throw of 205-8.
The SFA high jumpers were also dominant Saturday afternoon sweeping the men's and women's competition. Junior Audrey Azu cleared a height of 5-8.75 to beat out classmate Meghan Denman (5-7.00) for the individual title. On the men's side, senior Ryder Peacock and junior Justin Reyes each cleared a height of 6-8.75 to share the individual title.
Junior Sumbo Adeniran kept the 'Jacks domination in the field events going with his individual title in the long jump. Adeniran recorded a mark of 23-8.00 to win the event.
SFA recorded several victories in the sprints on the final day of competition. Junior Katrina Roundtree recorded SFA's third NCAA regional mark of the afternoon. Roundtree won the women's 400-meter dash by posting a time of 54.59. The Lumberjacks' 4 x 100-meter relay team posted a time of 40.86 to edge Sam Houston State by five-hundredths of a second. Junior Robert Smith won the men's 800 meters when he crossed the finish line with a time of 1:54.51.
SFA returns to action Thursday when they will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the LSU Combined Events. The track and & field team will travel to Houston, Texas Saturday to compete in the Rice Bayou Classic.
