Ladyjacks Close Out Regular Season in San Antonio

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to wrap up the No. 2 overall seed in the Southland Conference tournament Saturday as it travels to San Antonio, Texas for the regular-season finale. If the Ladyjacks (19-9/11-4 SLC) can knock off Texas-San Antonio they will earn the league's second seed in the conference tournament, which begins next week. But the Ladyjacks don't necessarily need a win in San Antonio to get the second seed. If undefeated Texas-Arlington beats Texas State in San Marcos Friday night, it would make SFA the No. 2 overall seed. The Ladyjacks have won five of the last six games, and are coming off an 83-46 throttling of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday night in Nacogdoches. The Roadrunners enter the game with a 12-15 (.444) overall record, and an 8-7 (.533) SLC mark. UTSA has won its past three games.
The Coaches: Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 102-71 (.590) in her sixth season in Nacogdoches. She is 233-129 (.644) in her 12th season as a head coach. Texas-San Antonio head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair is 111-89 (.555) in her eighth season with the Roadrunners. She is 218-133 (.621) in her 12th season as a head coach.
SFA vs. the Roadrunners: The Ladyjacks are 29-5 (.853) all-time against Texas-San Antonio. SFA has won four of the past seven meetings between the two schools, but the Ladyjacks will be looking to even the season series, after dropping a 61-55 decision at home earlier this year. The Ladyjacks dropped a 66-48 decision last year in the Convocation Center.
Margin of Victory: The Ladyjacks defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 83-46, Wednesday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The 37-point margin of victory equals the Ladyjacks' biggest victory of the season. SFA also defeated Centenary, 85-48, earlier in the year.
Need Assistance: Junior Nikki Carr only scored two points Wednesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, but she was heavily involved in the Ladyjacks' offense. Carr dished out a career-high 11 assists in the win. It marked the first time a Ladyjack has recorded double-figure assists in a game since Latisha Prater dished out 10 in a victory against Nicholls State during the 2001-02 season.
Making a Push for Player of the Year Honors: Senior Charity Egenti led the Ladyjacks with 24 points Wednesday in the team's 37-point victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. It marks the 10th time this season that she has scored at least 20 points in a game. Egenti is currently third in the Southland Conference averaging 16.6 points per game, tops in the league averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, second in blocked shots (1.78 bpg) and is tied for the top spot in the league with 10 double-doubles.
Road Block: Senior Evelyn Edwards enters her final regular-season game with 65 career swats. Edwards needs only one more block to move onto the school's all-time top 10 in that category. Edwards is currently fourth in the Southland Conference averaging 1.15 blocks per game.
