
SFA Softball Falls in Doubleheader to UTA

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were swept, 9-3 and 6-1, by the Texas-Arlington Mavs Saturday afternoon in SFA's Southland Conference home opener. The losses send SFA's overall record to 8-18 on the year and to 3-2 in league play. UTA now sits with an 18-10 overall mark and is 8-3 in SLC action.
In Game 1, UTA had an 8-run first inning and added another run in the third to have a 9-0 lead after three innings of play. SFA added its two runs in the bottom of the fourth and crossed the plate once more in the seventh for the 9-3 final score.
Kari Hugie went the distance, giving up 11 hits and nine runs. She had one strike out and issued two walks. She fell to 4-7 on the year.
At the plate, Briana Bishop was the only Ladyjack to collect more than one hit, going 2-for-3. Crystal Dahlquist had one hit and collected two RBI.
In Game 2, UTA's Laura Jones gave up four hits and kept the Ladyjacks scoreless until the seventh when Bishop scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Jessica Tullos. The Lady Mavs scored five in the second inning and added another run in the fourth for the 6-1 win.
Ashley Wilburn took the loss for SFA after giving up six runs on six hits. She had four strikeouts in the game.
The Ladyjacks will host the Mavs in the final game of the three-game series Sunday at 12 p.m. from Hoya Field.
