NACOGDOCHES - With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Ladyjacks were down by one and Crystal Dahlquist was in scoring position as Briana Bishop hit a game-winning home run to give the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks a 3-2 win over the Texas-Arlington Lady Mavs. The win gave the Ladyjacks their fourth Southland Conference victory in six games for a 4-2 record and an overall mark of 9-18. UTA is 18-11 on the year and 8-4 in conference play.
The Ladyjacks took an early 1-0 lead when Benet Higgs scored from second base on a sacrifice bunt from Bishop.
UTA took the lead in the third inning when DeeJay Nelson hit a two RBI double down the left field line.
But Bishop's game-winning home run kept the Mavs from completing the sweep. Bishop was 1-for-2 from the plate, scored a run and collected all three RBI.
Debra Boles made the start for SFA. She pitched four innings, giving up two runs off four hits, but it was Kari Hugie who took the win. She pitched 3.0 scoreless innings and now sits with a 5-7 overall record. UTA's Casey Clifton, who was called from the bullpen to pitch the ninth inning, suffered the loss.
The Ladyjacks will return to Hoya Field Tuesday for a doubleheader against Texas Southern. The first game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
