MONROE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks took their third straight loss on Saturday, 7-2, against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. SFA's record now stands at 1-4 while ULM is 2-0.
The `Jacks were down 2-0 heading into the seventh inning, but SFA tied things up. With one out, Ryan Sinclair singled up the middle and was replaced by Vincent Wade to run the bases. Wade then advanced to second when SFA's Kyle Freeman was issued a walk. Both runners then moved into scoring position after a Warhawk wild pitch. Jeremy Arterburn then came to the plate and hit a pinch-hit double to right field to score both runners to tie the score at two.
However, the Warhawks had a very eventful bottom half of the same inning, scoring five runs to take the 7-2 lead.
Sinclair, Arterburn, and Zach Gardner had the `Jacks three hits from the afternoon. Taking the loss for SFA was Sammy Hardwick who gave up the go-ahead run. He pitched a third of an inning, giving up one hit and two runs, one of which was earned.
SFA's starter, Jared Schrom, pitched six complete innings, giving up only three hits and two runs while striking out five.
The `Jacks will conclude their three-game set against the Warhawks Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. from Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.
