NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Some things never get old hat.
The Ladyjack volleyball team turned on the heat in the final two games on Saturday, sweeping Texas State 3-0 (30-28, 30-17, 30-27) to claim its fourth consecutive Southland Conference title.
SFA (25-7, 15-1) will have to share the title with Lamar, but that does not diminish the accomplishment. The win was even more special considering the postgame ceremonies that honored SFA's triumvirate of seniors: Jami Hill, JJ Jones and Traci Rohde - a group that has comprised a 110-20 record in their four years at SFA.
Texas State (18-11, 10-6) proved to be a pesky foe, going down 7-1 early in game one before rallying to make a game of it at 29-28 before Traci Rohde put home the game's final kill to take the game 30-28.
Rohde would have seven kills in the second game, leading SFA to a .417 hitting percentage in the frame. The Ladyjacks never trailed in game two, - and never trailed in the match - building up a 15-piont lead at its largest point.
After building up an 11-point lead at 23-12 in the third game, the Bobcats refused to die. Texas State would rally to draw to within a point on two occasions, but SFA had an answer as Rohde would hammer home kills each time to give the Ladyjacks breathing room.
Rohde would finish out her home career with 20 kills, tying the most by a Ladyjack this season. JJ Jones would finish with 43 assists on the night and moved into sole possession of second place on the SFA all-time list.
The Ladyjacks will hold the No. 2 seed in the SLC Tournament that begins on Friday.
