NACOGDOCHES, Texas - When the Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team takes the floor this season, Lumberjack fans might notice a few new faces in uniform -- nine, to be exact. The nine newcomers for 2007-08 tie two previous years for the most SFA rookies to start a season under eighth-year head coach Danny Kaspar. The class includes five prep recruits and four collegiate transfers. Following is the fourth in a series of question-and-answer sessions that will help SFA fans get to know the newest Lumberjacks. Today's featured 'Jack is freshman Eddie Williams.
Williams is a 6-3, 200-pound guard from Lawton, Okla. His versatility should allow him to earn more minutes than the average freshman, since he can play either backcourt position. Williams actually played all five positions during his high school career at Eisenhower High in Lawton. As a senior, he led his team to a runner-up finish in the state championships, capturing titles at the city, conference and district level along the way. Williams earned all-state, all-district and all-conference honors as a senior, when he was named one of the top five players in the state of Oklahoma.
Williams was an honor roll student in high school and received the President's Award for Academic Achievement. His smarts have already made an impression with his new coach. "Eddie is a very intelligent young man who has a lot of confidence in himself," Kaspar said. "I like a player to be confident, but not cocky, and Eddie is exactly that."
Williams will major in criminal justice at Stephen F. Austin.
