NACOGDOCHES, Texas - When the Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team takes the floor this season, Lumberjack fans might notice a few new faces in uniform -- nine, to be exact. The nine newcomers for 2007-08 tie two previous years for the most SFA rookies to start a season under eighth-year head coach Danny Kaspar. The class includes five prep recruits and four collegiate transfers. Following is the second in a series of question-and-answer sessions that will help SFA fans get to know the newest Lumberjacks. Today's featured 'Jack is junior transfer Jason Rogers.
Rogers is a 6-4, 215-pound shooting guard from Dallas, Texas. He has spent the last two years starring at Frank Phillips College. Rogers was an NJCAA All-Region V selection as a sophomore, when he helped lead the team to a piece of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship. He was fifth in the league in scoring with 15.5 points per game and led the league with 3.19 3-point field goals per contest, an effort that earned him First-Team All-WJCAC honors. Rogers was also an NJCAA Academic All-American as a sophomore. He was a four-year letterman and started three years at James Madison High School, where he received recognition at the district, regional and state levels.
When asked about Rogers, Kaspar is quick to laud the junior's shooting skills and his hard work in practice. "I've been impressed with Jason's improvement since the year began," the coach said. "His work ethic has impressed me a great deal and continues to do so."
Rogers is majoring in kinesiology at SFA.
